Lauren & Richard

Frasers Egerton

Frasers of Coldharbour is a beautiful rustic eco venue located in the heart of the idyllic Kent countryside, it is situated on a beautiful eco-estate offering peace and tranquility for the most important day of your life.

It is the perfect location for a ‘Truly Kentish Wedding’, and are fully licensed for Civil Ceremonies and Partnerships both inside and outside.

In the summer months, country garden weddings naturally flow between the lawn and our large, heated marquee. They pride themselves on offering a blank canvas to allow our couples to decorate and style the venue to their own individual taste. In cooler months, the Kentish Oak Barn is perfect for ceremonies and dining.

The wedding of Lauren and Richard took place at Frasers Egerton, renowned for their expertise in organizing sustainable, country garden-style weddings with a rustic touch.

The award winning and talented Kent wedding photographers Louisa Dettmer Wedding Photography (that’s us!) captured all the precious moments throughout the day.

The bridal prep barn was so spacious and filled with natural light, making it a dream to photograph in. Ebony’s Bridal Hair & Make-Up worked their magic to create stunning hair and make-up styles for the bride and bridesmaids.

The outdoor ceremony was simply beautiful, with the couple exchanging their vows under the shade of the barn.  Even in the heat of a very sunny day, the couple embraced the weather and looked effortlessly cool sporting their shades for the confetti photos.  They mingled with their guests in the social outdoor bar area of Frasers, enjoying the lively atmosphere, great conversations and lots of laughter.

Spencer Wood Magician wowed everyone with his mind-blowing tricks and brought so much laughter with his fantastic sense of humour.

As for the food, it looked delicious. Served in the exquisitely decorated marquee by The Creative Venue, the side panels were removed to allow a refreshing breeze to circulate, it was the perfect way to combat the heat of the day. The wedding cake by Ma Lakin’s Bakin looked amazing and probably tasted it as well.

After the wedding breakfast we took Lauren and Richard outside for some Golden Hour sunset photos, they came out amazing and the couple absolutely loved them.

The evening entertainment was just as impressive, guests got to indulge in their nostalgic side with retro video consoles and a DJ kept the party going with fantastic tunes.

It truly was a day filled with joy, laughter, and wonderful memories.

How was (if at all) your wedding affected by Covid-19?

Our wedding was postponed 3 times, so we were successful on the 4th attempt. Our original date was the 22 May 2020, so we were only 2 months out before we went into lockdown. Little did we know that we would end up waiting 2 years!

There were no restrictions in place when we finally got married on 10th June 2022. We wanted to have the day exactly as we had planned, no masks, no limit on numbers etc., so it was worth the wait. We had 4 people that couldn’t attend because they had Covid.

We did not have to change the venue or any of our suppliers, apart from our cake supplier. The theme / ethos of our day didn’t change at all, we had always been set on a relaxed rustic theme, and that is what we stuck with.

Both Richard and I still wore our planned wedding outfits. The groomsmen suits were hired, and luckily they still had the same options available for our wedding as those when we picked.

Your dress. Did it take long to find? Was it exactly as you’ve always imagined? How many dresses did you try on?

I watched quite a few episodes of ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ UK, so I knew I liked Dando London dresses. I had my heart set on that designer from the start and my gut must have been right, as I ended up getting a Dando London dress called Circe.

I think I probably tried on a maximum of 20 dresses across 3 shops. I got my dress from Confetti & Lace and I left this shop until last, as I knew they had dresses by Dando London.

I had always imagined having a slinky / figure hugging dress. I wanted a dress that had the wow factor and was a something people wouldn’t have necessarily expected me to wear. I did try on a few different styles though, just to make sure.

Why did you choose your venue? Did you have a specific place in mind from an early stage?

Our venue is not a particularly well-known wedding venue. We visited about 5 venues in total, but Frasers felt right. As soon as Richard and I left after our visit, we both agreed that it would be perfect. It fitted our relaxed rustic theme and was the perfect size for the number of guests we planned to invite.

Did you have a theme or particular colour scheme? Why did you choose this?

We had a relaxed rustic theme and our colour scheme was a pastel / pale green. We chose this theme because we thought it suited us as a couple. We didn’t fancy having our day particularly formal, as that just wasn’t us. The pale green colour was selected because green is Richard’s favourite colour, and we felt it was the right colour for the time of year. That was originally spring (May 2020), but luckily it worked for summer too (June 2022).

What did the bridesmaids wear?

The bridesmaid wore a full-length dress from Debenhams in pale green. They had a flowing skirt and beautiful lace detail on the top, which I felt matched my dress perfectly. It was important for me that my bridesmaids were happy and comfortable in their dresses.

What flowers did you choose?

Our flowers were all white and green. We had quite a lot of flowers for decoration and they looked fantastic on the day. My bouquet was a ‘messy’ style of bouquet to match the rustic theme, as was the bridesmaids. Gypsophila featured quite heavily in all of the flowers. I had a beautiful charm on my bouquet of my dad’s picture, so he was with me on the day.

And your cake?

We had cupcakes for our wedding cake. We thought they matched the rustic theme better than a formal tiered wedding cake, although we still did have a 1 tier cake for cutting on the day. We had 100 cupcakes and four different flavours, 25 of each. We had vanilla, chocolate, red velvet and lemon. The main cake that we cut on the day was chocolate.

The cupcakes worked perfectly as we got cupcakes boxes, and guests were able to take a cupcake or two home with them.

Tell us about the ceremony? How did you feel walking down the aisle, were there any funny or touching moments. Did you have any personal readings etc?

I felt amazing walking down the aisle. We had waited such a long time for the day to finally happen, so I wanted to cherish every moment.

As our wedding was outdoors, I did have to walk on some grass which was worrying me slightly but luckily, I didn’t sink too much!

The ceremony felt really personal, almost like nobody else was there when we were saying our vows. It was over pretty quickly which was exactly what Richard and I wanted; neither of us are a huge fan of being centre of attention.

We didn’t have any readings, but we did have Richard’s eldest nephew come up to the front to present the rings.

The funniest moment was when the registrar asked if there was anybody who knew of any reason why Richard and I weren’t free to marry, Richard and I both turned our heads round completely in sync in slow motion to look at our guests. It was almost like we had discussed what we were going to do beforehand.

Tell us about arriving at the reception, the photos, the wedding breakfast plus décor, any entertainment, the speeches…

After the ceremony had finished, we had drinks and canapes. It was important for us to make sure our guests had plenty to drink and eat, especially because our ceremony was at 13:00, so we assumed a lot of people wouldn’t have had time for lunch.

Our photographers (Louisa Dettmer and Duncan Dettmer) were fantastic throughout the whole day. They work so well together and got some fantastic candid shots, which is exactly what we wanted. They helped us get through the formal photos as quickly as possible so Richard and I could then spend time with our friends and family. Our guests commented on how friendly they were which put a lot of people at ease.

Entertainment during the day was lawn games for the kids and a magician for both adults and kids. Spencer Wood the magician was amazing and went down a treat with everyone. He went around tables at the post ceremony drinks reception and did the same during the wedding breakfast. He also acted as a toastmaster, so announced Richard and I to the wedding breakfast and introduced the speeches etc.

Décor was in keeping with the rustic theme. The ceiling of the marquee was decorated with fairly lights, and we had pale green chiffon drapes on the back of the chairs. We had a lovely flower arch behind the top table and lots of floral decoration on the tables.

The speeches were short and sweet but super thoughtful and considered. Richard, Martin (my step-dad) and Mike (best man) don’t particularly like public speaking, so they were all a bit nervous. It is for that reason that we decided to have the speeches at the start of the wedding breakfast so they could get them out of the way and then enjoy their meals.

Did you have any evening entertainment?

Evening entertainment consisted of a selfie mirror (a photo booth, but without the booth bit), a gaming station whereby we had 4 retro games consoles and a whole array of games that could be played, and a firework display.

The firework display was kept a surprise and guests were led to believe they were going outside for sparklers, which we did also do.

What was your first dance?

We didn’t have a first dance. Neither Richard nor I like ‘slow dancing’ and as alluded to earlier, we aren’t huge fans of being centre of attention so didn’t fancy having everyone watching us!

Where was your honeymoon? Did you go immediately after the wedding or leave it a few days?

We went to Canada for our honeymoon. We had always intended on going to Canada, ever since we got engaged. We started in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix (both Richard and I are Formula 1 mad), then we went to Banff and finally Lake Louise. When we got back to the UK headed straight to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

The original intention was to have a couple of weeks gap between the wedding and going away on honeymoon. However, because of the dates and when the Canadian Grand Prix fell, we had to go pretty quickly. We were married on the Friday and flew to Canada on Wednesday.

Top tip(s) for other brides:

Enjoy the planning process as much as you can.

Keep yourself organised during the planning process.

Don’t be afraid to take 5 minutes out on your wedding day. It can be overwhelming, so taking a bit of alone time for you and your partner can give you a little breather.
