Tom & Becky

Wotton House Hotel

Tom and Becky chose the stunning Wotton House Hotel for their early spring wedding in March this year. Everyone had a fantastic day with lots of love and laugter. We have asked the happy couple if they would share their wedding story with us.

Your dress.

I spent a couple of weeks looking for my dress as I originally had in mind a dress that was quite plain and simple, as sometimes less can be more as they say. However, trying these types of dresses on didn’t really suit or wow me or my mum.   My dress was in the window of the first bridal shop I visited and was originally in blush pink.  It caught my mum’s attention who persuaded me to try it on, so I did. The detail on the dress was beautiful but the colour made me looked washed out.  I carried on visiting other bridal shops but the dresses I tried on just didn’t have that ‘wow’ factor which in the end I wanted to have.   I went back and tried on Nora again and decided this was the dress but in ivory.  I tried on about 10 dresses in total.

My dress arrived in January and I was nervous to try it on at first, as I hadn’t seen the dress in Ivory only the blush pink.  I tried it on and felt like a princess.

The venue.

Originally, I wanted to get married in a church but Tom wasn’t keen… We researched several venues in Kent and surrounding areas, visiting the ones we had selected.    We came across Wotton House when researching for venues but decided it was too far for our family and friends to travel so we cancelled our appointment.  We carried on with our viewings of the venues in Kent but unfortunately none of these were jumping out at us.   A few weeks later Becky received a call from Wotton House to see if we had found a venue yet and if we would be interested in coming for viewing as they had some late winter/spring deals on.  We visited the venue on Saturday and was blown away by the ‘Old Library’ which felt like a church setting (ticking one of Becky’s boxes) the grounds. We were impressed at how attentive the staff were during our viewing which sealed the deal, if they can be this attentive during a viewing what would it be like on our wedding day?  We were completely sold and fell in love with Wotton House.

Your theme.

Dusty pink with gold was our colour scheme and Paris landmarks (where we got in engaged back in Feb 2019) were used for our seating plan and table names. The bridesmaids had on Marina dresses in dusty pink.  These had been customised to be fully lined and included a bow on the junior bridesmaid dresses while the Groomsmen wore navy tails from well-suited in Bexleyheath

Your flowers.

One of my favourite flowers is hydrangeas and roses. I was very lucky as our florist managed to find a rose which was an identical colour to the bridesmaid dresses, so everything came together so well.  I also had lily of the valley and myrtle in my bouquet and on our ceremony table flower arrangements, as it’s mostly known as a symbol of good luck, happiness, love and marriage.

The cake.

Our cake was from Ann’s Designer Cakes as we loved the fact, she offered so many different flavours.  We went for white chocolate and raspberry, mango and passionfruit, chocolate fudge and black-cherry.

The ceremony.

The ceremony room was breath-taking and set up the way Tom and I wanted.  I (Becky) felt very nervous as I started to walk down the aisle, so concentrated on looking at Tom instead of looking around at all the people looking at me.  Becky struggled to get Tom’s ring on his finger and one of our best-men, Andy, tripped over the fireplace which was hilarious.

The reception.

Our reception was held in the Evelyn suite at Wotton House which looked beautiful on the day.  Wotton House had done an amazing job with setting up everything how Tom and I wanted, including all the personal touches we had planned, which in our eyes makes the day even more special.  My mum and stepdaughter Ellie set up a memory table for our loved ones that couldn’t be there on our special day, which was lovely and very touching.

The photos.

The photos we had taken by Louisa and Duncan were brilliant.  Having two photographers works so well as they capture all the different angles.  They work extremely well together and are very funny with how they bounce off each other.

The wedding breakfast.

The wedding breakfast was amazing, we were very happy with the choices we made. The speeches were all brilliant and very funny, especially the slideshow the best men delivered for Tom.  I wished we had recorded it all so we could listen to it all again.

Advice for other brides.

Plan and organise as much of your day as possible to avoid any last-minute stress the week before the wedding, as you will want to relax at that point.  Don’t get stressed over trying to please all your guests, as it’s impossible!
